Porto took the lead in the 8th minute through a penalty converted by Samu Aghehowa after Noah Allen committed a foul in the box.
However, Inter Miami responded swiftly after the break. Telasco Segovia equalized just two minutes into the second half with a well-placed finish. Then, in the 54th minute, Lionel Messi produced a trademark free-kick to put Miami ahead.
Despite late pressure from Porto, Inter Miami held on to secure the win. The result marks a milestone as they became the first CONCACAF side to defeat a European club in an official FIFA competition. Messi’s performance, particularly his stunning free-kick, once again revealing his enduring influence at age 37, amplified by the tournament's “Ref Cam” technology capturing the moment.
With a previous draw against Al Ahly, this win puts Inter Miami in a strong position to progress to the knockout stage. The victory also ends a long-standing European dominance in the competition, as no European team had lost at the Club World Cup since Corinthians defeated Chelsea in 2012.
Inter Miami will now face Group A leaders Palmeiras in their final group match, where a positive result could seal their place in the next round.
