Arsenal secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Newcastle United in a friendly match held at Singapore's National Stadium on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Martin Ødegaard converted a late penalty to seal the win for the Gunners.
Anthony Elanga opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 6th minute after a misdirected cross caught goalkeeper David Raya off guard. Arsenal quickly responded, with Mikel Merino equalising in the 33rd minute, assisted by Kai Havertz. Just two minutes later, an own-goal by Alex Murphy gave Arsenal the lead.

Jacob Murphy brought Newcastle back into the game in the 58th minute, making it 2-2. However, Arsenal found a late winner when 15-year-old Max Dowman made a driving run through midfield and earned a penalty in the 84th minute. Ødegaard stepped up and calmly converted the spot kick.

Max Dowman impressed with his lively performance, winning the decisive penalty and highlighting his potential as one of Arsenal’s most exciting young talents. New signing Viktor Gyökeres was introduced to fans before kick-off but did not play. Martin Zubimendi made his debut in midfield and showed composure throughout. David Raya, who conceded early, was replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga, who made a crucial save in stoppage time.

The match marked the end of Arsenal's Asia tour, which also included a 1-0 win over AC Milan on July 23. They now head to Hong Kong to face Tottenham Hotspur in their next preseason fixture on July 31.
