Aaron Ramsey, former Arsenal star and captain of the Wales national team, has officially joined Liga MX side Pumas UNAM on a one-year deal. The 34-year-old midfielder arrives as a free agent after parting ways with Cardiff City, where he briefly served as interim coach but was unable to prevent the club’s relegation to League One.
During his presentation in Mexico City, Ramsey expressed his excitement about the new challenge and spoke positively about his new teammates. “I’m very excited to be here and looking forward to what lies ahead,” he said.

Ramsey brings a wealth of experience from top European clubs, having played for Arsenal, Juventus, Rangers, and Nice. Over his career, he has won several major honours, including three FA Cups and three Community Shields with Arsenal, a Serie A title and both the Italian Cup and Super Cup with Juventus, and the Scottish Cup with Rangers. In total, he has made more than 545 club appearances and scored 79 goals.

Internationally, Ramsey has been a vital figure for Wales, earning 86 caps and scoring 21 goals, including appearances at major tournaments such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The midfielder is expected to play a key role in Pumas' campaign in the upcoming Apertura 2025 season. He is also keen to maintain his form ahead of the 2026 World Cup, where he aims to lead Wales once again.

Pumas will begin their Apertura season on July 12 against Santos Laguna and will also feature in the upcoming CONCACAF Champions Cup. Before then, they are scheduled to play a friendly against Spanish side Leganés.

One challenge Ramsey has acknowledged is adapting to Mexico City’s high altitude—approximately 2,240 meters above sea level. “The altitude is definitely something I’ll have to adjust to,” he admitted during a press conference.

Ramsey’s arrival represents a major signing for Pumas UNAM and adds a wealth of leadership and top-level experience to the squad.
