Nigeria’s Super Falcons began their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating Tunisia 3–0 in their opening Group B match at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca 🇳🇬💚.
The standout moment came from Rinsola Babajide, who not only scored Nigeria’s second goal but also paid tribute to the late Diogo Jota with his signature gamer celebration 🎮—sitting cross-legged and miming a video game controller. Her gesture added a poignant layer to an already dominant performance.

The Super Falcons opened the scoring in the 4th minute through Asisat Oshoala, who headed home a free-kick delivered by Babajide. Just before halftime, Babajide doubled the lead with a composed finish from a tight angle. The third goal came in the 84th minute, courtesy of substitute Chinwendu Ihezuo, who converted a header from Ashleigh Plumptre.

Jota’s gamer celebration, originally introduced during his time at Liverpool, has become a global symbol of remembrance following his tragic passing earlier this month. Babajide’s tribute joins others from stars like Ousmane Dembélé and Diogo Gonçalves, who have honored Jota in recent matches across Europe and the U.S.

With this win, Nigeria tops Group B and sets the tone for what could be a historic run toward their 10th continental title.
