🇳🇬 Super Falcons Soar Past Tunisia in WAFCON Opener
The Super Falcons of Nigeria kicked off their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in emphatic fashion, securing a 3-0 victory over Tunisia in Casablanca on Sunday.
Star striker Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring just four minutes into the match, heading home a pinpoint cross from Omorinsola Babajide. Babajide doubled the lead on the stroke of halftime with a composed finish from a tight angle, capping off a dominant first-half performance.

Despite a disallowed goal by defender Ashleigh Plumptre, Nigeria maintained control throughout the match. Substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo sealed the win with a third goal late in the second half, ensuring the nine-time African champions began their tournament on a high note.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie remained largely untroubled, as Tunisia struggled to create meaningful chances. The Super Falcons’ fluid attacking play and disciplined defense showcased their intent to reclaim continental glory.

Next up, Nigeria will face Botswana in their second group fixture on Wednesday, as they continue their quest for a record-extending tenth WAFCON title.
