Garnacho Undergoes Chelsea Medical Ahead of £40m Transfer from Manchester United
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho is at the club’s Cobham training facility as his £40 million move from Manchester United nears completion.
The 21-year-old winger, deemed surplus to requirements by United manager Ruben Amorim, arrived on Friday to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms. The transfer agreement between the two Premier League clubs was reached on Thursday.
“I know he is around here,” Maresca told reporters when asked about Garnacho’s presence. “He’s a winger. I see him as a winger.”
The Italian manager did not rule out further squad changes before Monday’s summer transfer deadline, stating: “You can expect anything. The transfer window is open — anything can happen in and out.”
Maresca also provided an injury update ahead of Saturday’s west London derby against Fulham. Cole Palmer will miss the match due to a groin problem sustained against West Ham, while Benoît Badiashile and Romeo Lavia remain sidelined. The manager indicated that Lavia and Badiashile are unlikely to return before the international break but are making progress.
Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League table following a goalless draw with Crystal Palace and a 5-1 victory over West Ham.
