Alexis Sánchez Returns to La Liga as Sevilla Sign Veteran Forward on Free Transfer

Alexis Sánchez has officially signed with Sevilla FC, marking his return to Spanish football more than a decade after his memorable stint with FC Barcelona. The 36-year-old Chilean forward, who previously played for Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and most recently Udinese, joins Sevilla on a free transfer following the termination of his contract with the Serie A side. His arrival comes as part of a strategic reshuffle at Sevilla, who recently offloaded winger Dodi Lukébakio to Benfica.

Sánchez first made his mark in La Liga between 2011 and 2014, scoring 47 goals and providing 35 assists in 141 appearances for Barcelona. His return to Spain is seen not only as a personal revival but also as a tactical boost for Sevilla, who are seeking to reinforce their attacking options amid injuries and squad transitions.

Despite a challenging season at Udinese, where he featured in just 13 matches, Sevilla’s management believes Sánchez’s experience and versatility can add depth and leadership to the squad. Sevilla’s director of football, Antonio Cordón, described the signing as “a market opportunity that can give the team an extra edge in crucial moments.” Sánchez is expected to play a complementary role rather than serve as a regular starter, offering offensive flexibility and mentoring younger talents.
