Following the decision to leave Mohamed Salah on the bench for the Champions League fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt, Liverpool manager Arne Slot appeared unfazed by the Egyptian forward’s cryptic social media activity, insisting that the player remains an important figure at the club.
Salah, who has gone several matches without finding the net, was left out of the starting lineup as Liverpool recorded a dominant 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. After the match, he was seen walking quickly down the tunnel and later changed both his profile picture and cover photo on social media, a move that sparked discussions among fans about his current mindset.
In his post-match comments, Arne Slot maintained his confidence in the 32-year-old forward. He said, “I don’t know if it’s sharpness or not. In general, football players miss chances and Mo is a human being as well. We are not used to him missing chances, let alone a few in a row. The main thing is Mo has always scored goals for our club and the last thing I worry about is Mo starting to score goals again because that’s what he has done his whole life and that’s what I expect him to do in the upcoming weeks and months for our club as well.”
Slot further explained that player rotation was part of the plan, noting that, “In general, for every player, if you have quite a few changes in your squad, Mo is not an exception to this. In an ideal world, you play every game with the same team, but it’s not realistic.”
During the game at Deutsche Bank Park, Frankfurt took the lead through Rasmus Kristensen in the 26th minute. Liverpool responded swiftly with goals from Hugo Ekitiké in the 35th minute, Virgil van Dijk in the 39th, Ibrahima Konaté in the 44th, Cody Gakpo in the 66th, and Dominik Szoboszlai in the 70th minute. Salah was introduced in the 74th minute but failed to find the back of the net despite creating several chances.
Salah’s cryptic post, which featured a black-and-white image of himself with no caption, has been interpreted by many as a subtle expression of frustration after being left out of the starting lineup.
Liverpool will return to Premier League action this weekend as they travel to face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
