The Department of State Security (DSS) has arraigned Abdulmalik Abdulazeez Obadaki, the suspected mastermind of the 2012 terror attack on Deeper Life Bible Church in Otite, near Okene, Kogi State.

Obadaki, believed to be a member of the Ansaru terrorist group, was arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on a six-count charge bordering on terrorism, conspiracy, aiding attacks, concealment of information, and escape from lawful custody. He pleaded guilty to count six, which relates to escaping from lawful custody, but not guilty to the remaining five charges.

The DSS had recaptured Obadaki on November 15, 2025, after he escaped from Kuje Prison during a jailbreak in July 2022. The agency has been praised by victims' families and survivors for its swift action in re-arresting and prosecuting Obadaki.

The case has been adjourned to January 26, 2026, for review of facts and trial on the other counts. Obadaki will remain in DSS custody pending the next hearing.
