Isiah Whitlock Jr., the veteran actor best known for his iconic roles in The Wire, Veep, and Spike Lee films, has passed away at 71. He died peacefully in New York after a short illness, according to his manager Brian Liebman.

Whitlock's breakout role was as corrupt state senator Clay Davis in The Wire, where he became famous for his unique delivery of the catchphrase "sheee-it". He appeared in all five seasons of the show and went on to work with Spike Lee in films like 25th Hour, She Hate Me, and Da 5 Bloods. His other notable TV roles include Secretary of Defense George Maddox in Veep and Charlie Figaro in Your Honor.

Whitlock's filmography spans over four decades, with credits in Goodfellas, Pieces of April, Enchanted, and Lightyear. He was praised by colleagues and fans for his versatility and warmth, both on and off screen. Director Spike Lee remembered him as a "beautiful soul" and said he'll be missed for the rest of his life.
